David Millburn | Deanna Troi “Star Trek: The Next Generation”

“I picked Deanna Troi for a couple of reasons. Marina Sirtis helped me through that special part of a young person’s life by being my first on screen crush. As I watched more and more of TNG I came to realise what an important role she had within the crew dynamics. Yes, she was the ships counsellor and helped various characters through some situations, but she was so much more. She was the Captains confidant, with her ability to sense other people’s emotions, becoming vital in diplomatic and first contact situations. She had a vulnerability about her even though she had these abilities but was always a strong willed and determined character. I always think that she is the link that holds all the crew together, take her out of the equation and the paradigm changes completely. Her words of wisdom and guidance has often played key roles in positive outcomes, and when the situation wasn’t what was hoped for, she was there for the rest of the crew, sometimes sacrificing her own feelings for the good of the others. A well written and developed character over the course of the 7 seasons of Star Trek played so well by the amazing Marina Sirtis.”

David’s Bio:

I am from Liverpool in the UK and I am currently 5 months into my 40th year. I have been a Star Trek for about 27 of those years from when I first saw Star Trek The Next Generation, aged 13. I have always loved art and from my teenage years I wanted to work in animation but as I grew older and wiser that routeway seemed less and less likely. I fell into what would be my career as an Employment Advisor, helping people into work or upskill, when I was 21 and it’s a career I get a lot of satisfaction from. As a result, my art was put on hold until around 10 years ago. With the digital age as it, I picked it back up utilising tools like the iPad and drawing tablets and haven’t looked back since. My love of Star Trek in also reflected in my writing as I am the Managing Editor of trekcentral.net.
